11 Durham locations whose own sites describe a patio, lawn, rooftop or outdoor seating, from downtown's Foster Street and Five Points to Lakewood and 15-501.

Last checked Oct. 12, 2026. Refreshed every three months.

Durham’s outdoor seating is thickest downtown: around Foster Street and Rigsbee Avenue north of the loop, at Five Points, on Parrish Street and on the roof of The Durham Hotel. Away from downtown there are patios and outdoor tables near Duke on Erwin Road and Hillsborough Road, and in south Durham in Lakewood and along U.S. 15-501.

How we made this list. The places come from OpenStreetMap records inside Durham’s city limits, the same data behind our local directory, checked against each place’s own website on Oct. 12, 2026. Many places are tagged on the map as having outdoor seating; we list only those whose own sites say so. Mattie B’s and The Northern Spy sites did not load, and several others tagged for outdoor seating (Picnic, Maverick’s, Geer Street Garden, Local 22) do not mention it on their sites. For pets, see our dog-friendly Durham page. The list is alphabetical. It is not a ranking or a recommendation, and nobody paid to be on it. Run one of these places?
