9 ice cream and dessert shops, 11 locations, inside Durham city limits: downtown, Old West Durham, North Roxboro Street, University Drive and Southpoint.
Last checked Oct. 12, 2026. Refreshed every three months.
Most of Durham’s ice cream and dessert shops are downtown, from Market Street and Parrish Street to Gregson Street and Foster Street, or just west of it in Brightleaf and Old West Durham. The rest are in north Durham on North Roxboro Street and in south Durham on University Drive, Hope Valley Road and at Southpoint.
How we made this list. The places come from OpenStreetMap records inside Durham’s city limits, the same data behind our local directory, checked against each place’s own website on Oct. 12, 2026. The Parlour Jr. and LocoPops’ downtown shop were added from their own sites, and the Smallcakes address now belongs to Whisk & Batter Bakery, which is listed under its own name. National chains (Baskin-Robbins, Cold Stone, Dairy Queen, Krispy Kreme, Duck Donuts, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Insomnia Cookies, Menchie’s) are left out. Local Yogurt’s site no longer loads and Two Roosters’ Durham page did not, so they are not listed. For doughnuts and cakes, see also our bakeries list. The list is alphabetical. It is not a ranking or a recommendation, and nobody paid to be on it. Run one of these places? Write to us to correct your entry.
